Be a Packer, not a Buyer!

When I was in school, our lunch tables consisted of two groups: the packers and the buyers. Now a lot of students wanted to buy because it was convenient and because they were a lot of unhealthy choices we could make- like pizza and fries everyday!

This definitely carries over into adulthood! So are you a buyer or a packer?

In the fitness word, out motto is “prepare to plan or plan to fail”. When we don’t meal prep, we tend to make poor last minute choices. And we make excuses to go along with that. “Well it’s Friday so we should go out for lunch”, or “It’s my co-workers birthday so we should go to the buffet”.

Let’s focus on some healthy meal prep options when packing your lunch!

First and foremost, you have to drink tons of water. Don’t even pack another option. We can consume so many extra calories with soda, teas, lattes, etc. The very best thing you can drink is water! If you can try to eat small portions throughout the day (if your job allows). When you eat small portions often, it can help keep your metabolism running. Avoid eating too many carbs throughout the day, it can make you tired. Stock your lunch box with fresh fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. Stay on a schedule. Once you find foods that you enjoy and that are healthy, stick to the plan. Boring is better than making bad choice. Finally, set your mind straight. If you packed, stick to the plan and don’t let others encourage you to hit up the pizza buffet for lunch instead. Your goals are too important!

Since I work from home, I typically follow the plan of eating small portions several times per day, every 2-3 hours. If you would like to a list of what I typically eat throughout the day along with some other suggestions please email me at angiekix@gmail.com with the subject: Lunch Ideas
